I have a few spots in my yard, the biggest about 5X5 feet, where the grass is dead or there is no grass.
I keep seeing commercials for this "Patch Perfect" stuff that's supposed to fill in the dead patches very well. But you can't buy it in stores (not even in those "As Seen on TV" places yet.) And though a bag of the stuff is not very expensive, the shipping cost is. If it works well, I'll be okay paying the shipping. But I'll be really ticked if I get it and it doesn't work.
Has anyone tried it? Is is worth it? Or should I just have someone seed my spots?
In most places, anything you plant now (grass seed) will die unless you water it every day for the next few months. Wait til fall and just buy regular grass seed, some starter fertilizer, and some wheat straw. It's a tried and trusted method.
Do you really have to send away for that stuff? In Colorado, I remember buying regular Patch at Target. Anyway, we used in August in Denver and we were quite successful.
I do agree that fall is the best time to plant grass seed or Patch or whatever.
I've been wondering about the patch stuff, too. Does it just last for a season or will it come back after the winter and grow/spread?
I used it once. It lasted through a single summer when I planted it in the spring. It didn't come back the next year although the new fescue I overseeded with did.

Ours blended in perfectly and just became part of the lawn.
It was as if there had never been a bare area there before. However, I do think we were lucky that we had a rainy summer that year. Fall is probably a better time to do it.
