How about some photos of your orchids? My favorite is blooming right now: it's a vanda. The color is vibrant.

I'm jealous. I can never grow those. I've been waiting for 2 years for my "slipper" orchid to flower. Nothing yet.. I put it in the bathroom hoping the humidity will make it bloom (next to window) but still nothing.

Oh Yardener, what great photos. I see from the siding in the photo that you keep your outside too. Aren't vandas a treasure? I have one that has some of the same coloration as yours, but it doesn't bloom as frequently as the blue/purple variety which blooms 2-4 times a year. Next time I get a bloom coming, I'm going to follow it in photos as you've done.

Janecj, don't cry! You aren't the only one who can't win with Lady Slippers. I've killed probably a dozen very costly ones. As soon as I carry them into my house they start wilting. Try a vanda instead - with the right light (east window in winter, outside in summer) and daily spraying you can't lose. Good luck.

Here are a couple of mine. Blooms are now gone but while they lasted we really enjoyed them.

Oh my gosh, I've never seen one like your top photo. The orange of the throat is stunning. I want to cry with joy every time I visit the Daniel Stowe Orchid House here in Charlotte or the orchid exhibit at the botanical garden in D.C. How can anything so beautiful exist!

I went to the DC botanical garden some years ago. Had a good laugh. Being from FL and seeing poinsettias on display as exotics? Well that was a good one. They grew like weeds in my grandmother's flower beds. The orchids pictured about came from garden supply down here. They were purchase explicitly for the photographs. Glad you enjoyed them and glad to share.
