I have plenty of flowers along with my feeder hanging between 2 hanging potted flowers.
My neighbors have 6 feeders out between them and no flowers on their patios. But they live upstairs so their balconies are easier for the hummers to fly down from the tree they are perching in I reckon.
I've had sightings at my feeders 5 days in a row, and that's not even knowing what's going on at 14 different feeders, just a chance sighting while looking out my kitchen window.
I tried this, went to this website and found ruby throated hummingbird calls (the one that just says CALLS) and played it a few times...3 hummers showed up! Kept playing it and they kept flying over and away. Was sitting near some of my feeders. Worth a try!
We have two hummingbird species who reside the entire year here in Phoenix, the Costa’s and Anna’s. We have two feeding stations along with numerous flowering plants that attract them. We can watch them every morning or evening. One of them has taken a liking to perching herself atop our small lime tree. I can find her there most nights.
Thanks for the link/info, Eldemila. Given the article is roughly a week old, maybe my numbers will be picking up shortly. I still have not seen a female tho.
I am finally seeing 2 females. But by and large, I am still seeing mostly males. We did have a boy sipping at the Amistad purple sage I planted again this year. Last year, they could not stay away from that plant. But I had more hummers last year.
