It's known as "sudden summer limb drop", and is common on pecan trees. It's usually a weakness in the center of a limb combined with too much weight. I have some very old pecan trees and have had the same problem. If these trees are near your home you should consider pruning them to reduce the weight.

I call it heat stress. Same thing, different name. This year there seems to be a bumper crop of nuts. That makes the tree heavier. I usually trim the trees every year. We got so much rain last year that the Pecan Trees grew fast and furious. That is in Texas we got lots of rain last year.
