I just got a pitcher plant. I absolutely love it. I'm having a hard time trying to keep it happy. I had it hanging on the back porch where it got sun for half the day but it's leaves started to brown where the sun hit it. So i've now moved it to the shade outside where I hope it will will be happy and still be able to catch all the bugs it wants without me moving it inside.
Just wanted to know if anyone has any pointers for my new beautiful plant.
They are the pitcher part of the plant. The plant is carnivorous. Those pitcher trap insects and spiders and the plant feeds off of that. Each pitcher holds about an inch of water where the bugs die. YAY for the pitcher plant!
Oh wow that is amazing looking . Have never seen one like that how neat. I have a tiny venus fly trap in my backyard patio its been a month and doing well as warm/hot and humid here though do water it .
Pitcher plants are wetland plants, they sure wouldn't like a sunny area without moisture...I would keep it in a humid, part sunny area. Do you have a pond in your yard? A shady spot by a pond would be ideal. They only grow here in PA in wetland areas, such as cranberry bogs and marshes. They need to be kept wet enough to be able to trap insects in the water inside the cups. If outdoors in the morning, they will collect the morning dew...

Actually, I do have a pond in the backyard but there is too much sun. I have it in the shade now with partial sun at about 8 am. There isn't much dew in the morning but I keep up on the water in the pitchers. The plant seems to be doing better now. There are a few new pitchers growing now! Look-in gooood!!

I wouldn't know. Have you asked various gardening centers? I suggest calling around. I actually found mine at Wal-mart of all places!
