You could get a juicer and make hard cider or apple jack! Then there would be a party!

We had an apple tree in our yard that had the WORST apples. We cut it down, just wasn't worth it. We replanted another tree in it's place.

Oh I wish I could! The trees are fairly mature and the thought of getting rid of such mature trees is difficult. I may go to Fleet Farm and see if they have any recommendations. Someone has to know how to stop the apples from growing without cutting the apple tree down.

BTW golfgal...I was in Stillwater last weekend and saw the REAL Stillwater...not just Main Street. Absolutely beautiful homes! Now I can see why you rave about Stillwater!

not sure if this will work up there but down here with our citrus trees if you put down to much nitrogen it will cause the blossoms to fall off because the tree will use all the energy to produce leaves.
Have you called your extension office. I would go in asking the question backwards.( some people can be weird when you don't want fruit) Tell them all of your blossoms fell off and was wondering what could of caused it. they will them list all the possible causes and there you go you can try them
I know my lawn guy said if he sprays aztrzene(sp) for weeds around the citrus trees it would cause the blossoms to fall off.

the extension office is in your county it is comprised of people who's concerns are the countys agricutural status. They even have forestry experts. They are usually connected to a major university. Our extension office is connected with the U of Florida. We use their guidelines in offering advise to homeowners.
go to google and put in extension office (your) county. I would look it up for you but I don't know what county you are in.
lots of very helpful people

Atrazine is a poison that kills broad leaf plants and can sicken your trees and shrubs. It is highly toxic to amphibians in very small quantities. It has also been implicated in cancer. Be very careful and follow the directions. I'm not sure if it will cause your trees to drop their blossoms or not. Fertilizer can have the same effect if applied at the wrong time.

Every home owner should get to know their county cooperative extension agent. Like Karla says (and she should know) they provide many services .

Another idea would be to call the U of MN Arboretum. They might have some ideas for you. We have county extension agents in MN, look in your phone book in the government listing otherwise you can find them online on the county websites.

In some places the agents will even come out to your property.
I love "larry the tree guy" the forestry agent at our extension office.

don't worry about any question you may have, I have had some "doozies"
We had one guy that came in with plastic baggies that "contained" bugs that bit him when he went out past his shed. Problem is he was the only one that could see these bugs, "bless his heart"

and our motto is it is ok to say
"I dont know but I will find out"

Thanks to all of you!! Yeah, we're in Hennepin county so I'll get on the web and do some research, and check out the arboretum. I know it's getting about time to do this since the leaves are just budding out. Can't wait for the lilacs! Love them!! We have several lilac bushes (white flowers) that are almost as tall as our house. They serve as a wonderful barrier since we live on a corner.
