Can someone please tell me which variety of dark colored camellias thrive in the Raleigh area ?
Yesterday at Ace I saw a breathtaking read camellia plant but the hardiness zone was 8 - 10. Since we are in 7b would this particular plant survive in my garden?
I have fallen in love with camellias and would love to add some to my garden as foundation plants.
Thanks in advance.

You're close enough, so go here. Camellia Forest Nursery

They will give you exactly what you want. They have another open house coming in two weeks. Make plans. Camellias vary so widely, it's hard to tell just by a name what is a good one and what isn't. This is especially true for those at the box type stores. We sell them at Lowes. I couldn't tell you one from the other aside from bloom color.

I have some in my yard probably 20 years old. They bloom great until the temperatures reach the low teens. They even had some burned foliage this year. Zone 7b isn't supposed to get as cold as it did this year.

Ya'll are welcome. They get rave reviews on the Carolina Gardening forum at GardenWeb. Seen their name mentioned several times.
