Whoops - I meant summer-flowering bulbs. Fall-flowering don't go in the ground until August/Sept. Anyway - here is some information on summer bulbs. And yes those glads and lillies ARE summer flowering, so you should be good to go on those. Just give them some time.

thanks :-)

but see, nothing is coming out of the ground!
i'm not saying that i'm not getting flowers...i'm getting nothing!

i'm also always worried about putting the bulbs too deep into the ground! should i dig a few of them up to make sure that they're not dead?!

are you saying that they'll come out of the ground for the summer?
i hope so!

Yes, that is what I'm saying. You must not have any experience with bulbs. Nothing - no foliage, NOTHING - comes up, until they get near bloom time. That is the nature of bulbs. So for summer-blooming, you have a couple of months to go.

As long as you planted them at the depth that was on the instructions, they'll be fine.

It is too early for some of those to even come up. Given them time and you will see more flowers.

this is SO disappointing and i just want to go out there and grab the one that came out and torture it until it tells me where the other 199 went!

i did exactly what the package said i should do....not too deep, not too shallow, watered it right after planting....the whole nine yards!

i bought them from costco....

about 80 or so lillies....
30 iris
40 konwalias
100 or so gladiolus
etc.

NOTHHHHHING! :-(
hugs to you! that's terrible!

You could plant onion sets, those are sort of bulb like and they would at least put up some green shoots for you.

Don't people frequently plant bulbs interspersed with other seeds/plants so there will be something growing while the bulbs are waiting for their time to appear?

We don't really get enough chilling hours for bulbs to work here so I can't go by experience, but that's what I've heard other folks have done.

Yes, that is the general goal - to plant a variety that provides blooms all season.

I planted some bulbs last mid summer and expected the same as you.... to at least see healthy greens coming from the tops... when I saw nothing after a few weeks, I planted right in the same area a bunch of Cosmos seeds... and I disrupted the soil and tossed some of the bulbs thinking they were dead.

Spring forward to SPRING on Cape Cod... zone 6-7... and those bulbs are now 5" high!!!!

So... don't despair.. Mother Nature knows a thing or two about plants... let her work her magic for next year... just sprinkle some Cosmos seeds on top of where you put those bulbs and water them good for a few days... you'll have 4' tall flowering plants all summer and next year you'll get surprised with all your hard work of 6 weeks ago!

In gardening... patience is a virture I've had to nuture... lololol Good luck!!!
