Rabbits are WICKED to gardeners!!! Last year they ate all my annuals. Luckily, they were occupied enough with those they didn't find my vegetable garden!

Do you have domestic pets? My cat keeps a pretty good handle on them. I think she wiped out the den last summer as I've not seen any around so far this summer. Also, the smell of a big dog should help deter them.

The biggest issue is rabbits dig. They'll dig a hole right under that fence if you've got something in there they want to eat. You may need to dig a trench and bury the fencing underground.

Failing those suggestions, the only other one I can think of to eradicate them without shooting them (my preference), is to erect an electric fence. Set that first wire loooooooow to the ground. One zap powerful enough to wipe them out.... lol or at least deter them from bothering with your green godies anymore!

Wurzig will become famous soon enoughWurzig will become famous soon enoughWurzig will become famous soon enough
it has been quite awhile since I wrote on this, mostly because the rabbits are now out of my back yard....the gauge wire has helped on the wrought iron gates, spraying the stinky stuff on the rocks by the gates many times finally gave them the hint and the spikes buried down into the ground next to the gates helped immensely, (they kind of look like thin railroad spikes--bought in the garden area at Home Depot).

HOWEVER, they have destroyed the front lawn (especially my side lawn), and I pretty much gave up....I did think of buying a gun, but with my luck, I would have shot the neighbor's windows out).....they eat certain areas down to the nubs, (and leave the clover, if you can believe it...they love the Kentucky blue), poop everywhere and leave brown patches that are beyond 'rebirth'......

.....but......

......HERE IS SOMETHING THAT HAS HELPED: (And to be honest, I didn't buy it because of the rabbits!) We have recently had massive damage from crows looking for grubs.....(and a raccoon or oppossum showed up one night, too---they tear the grass BACK in huge clumps, similar to pulling back a throw rug. Crows take it out in huge chunks and just toss it around).. Anyway, in the beginning, I tossed out grub killer, but it didn't stop the crows...(I tossed it out more than once)....our house is on the market, so this has been devastating to the curb appeal.

I went to the hardware store and bought a gizmo called 'Scare Crow'. With tax, it was @ $72.00. (You can buy it online, but the manufacturer charges $99.00 for it, so shop around). It looks like a giant rainbird sprinkler and sprays for 3 seconds when it senses motion. (There is some adjustment for the length, but not much....I have noticed that a neighbor lady walking her dog no longer comes close to my house and it sometimes gives the mailman's truck a bath....LOL!!! The best I could do is move it back, (away from the sidewalk), closer to my house. Be prepared to get soaked here and there and a bit muddied, too....it takes time to figure out how far and exactly where you want it to go...) It has a 9-volt battery, (not included), and you hook it up to a hose......the only drawback is that it leaks a little at the connections, not only at the Scare Crow, but also at the spigot, due to the pressure...... I got some plumbers tape, (thin white tape), and it helped a bit at the Scare Crow, (I first tried black electricl tape, but it made it too 'thick' and the hose wouldn't screw into the contraption), but all I can do at the spigot is put a big bucket under it and try to remember to go out and dump it on flowers, etc. a few times a day. (In S. CA, we get into trouble if we waste water lately). Scare Crow has a head similar to Heckle and Jeckel (the old cartoon), and it comes with decals that you apply.....there is a warning that it might scare away small song birds, but at least this has enabled me to plant some new seeds and sprout some grass in the worst areas.... I need to buy another one for the side yard in order to get rid of the rabbits as I planted some grass seeds there yesterday, but the store is out of them right now..... Anyway, so far, this thing is worth it!

My sister uses on of those motion sprayers in har yard in Vancouver BC. It's to keep the Great blue herons from eating her Koi. I have a lot of rabbits around my place but they stay on my neighbours yards because I have a rabbit killing machine on mine. My normally gentle schnauzer turns into a rabbit killing maniac the instant he sees a rabbit. Even if he's in the house he knows if one comes around and barks to get out.
