Default mailbox plants

I am looking for something to plant at the base of my mailbox which is on a 4" x 4" wooden pole. I'd like something that would be colorful and maybe climb but not take over. I'm in the northern part of SC near Charlotte, so we don't get snow (usually) but it does get cold. I am considering something I can grow in pots since I'm in a rental house, but I'm not against planting in the ground.

Any suggestions??

Make sure the mailman won't get stung by what your plant attracts. They hate that....

there are several types of climbing plants...any nursery in your area will have what does well for your zone. You'll also need to plant something to protect the roots of the plant you choose....shade it from the sun so to speak

Good luck

Clematis. Buy one now from the big box store garden centers. These are type III and will not become invasive. Stay far far far away from Sweet Autumn Clematis. Your mailman will likely be taken down by that weed.

I did really well with Black-eyed Susan aka Rudbeckia planted around our mailbox.

They were very colorful, they also can handle the heat that radiates up from the street & driveway.

They will also reseed.

I also agree with Clematis.

Black Eyed Susan vine is another good climber.

Vinca - the annual is very heat tolerant too.
