This plant in my (Illinois) yard grows from a strange collection of woody stalks. I do not recognize it. Does anyone else? Thank you.

Look up "Phillidelpus". . . mock orange, online or elsewhere. . . the flowers are strongly scented and smell just like orange blossoms. . . One of my very favorite plants, along with Lilacs, neither of which grow well here in southern Arizona.

They're beautiful, aren't they? I love it also. Had one growing in the yard of a place I rented years ago, and they do give off such a great fragrance. Also make gorgeous flower bouquets.

You've got a beauty there ihynes!

Thanks for identification cap1717, I knew they looked familiar, but couldn't put a name to it either.

oh, thank you!! the fragrance isn't very strong, and since most of the flowers are taller than me, I have to pull the branches down to smell them - but it's beautiful, almost a tropical smell

You might give it a "haircut" to force it to bush lower.
