I am not that lady on TV who was arrested for beating a deer to death with a shovel when she caught it eating her flowers.

Although I have thought about it. I believe it was a fawn. Now that would be pretty desperate but we all are trying to think of ways to get rid of them. I'm so torn between enjoying seeing them, especially the playful jumping fawns and wanting to ring their necks after I survey the damage they do almost every night.
Could you beat a deer to death with a shovel? Would you try?

I understand the frustration of having a garden eaten or trampled, but there are other options...plant OTHER things, move the garden to the front, fence the area off...build a greenhouse...buy a dog.

Beating a young animal to death is not acceptable. That is a horrible way for ANYTHING to die. If she'd just shot it point blank, I'd call her an *******...but it would have been quick. What she did...I have other words.

But remember - I plant for the wildlife, so I'm terribly biased.

Eeeks...just...eeeks. Angry, proud, scared? I guess it depends on the audience.

P.S. Deer 'hiss' when they are frightened. It's a breathy, almost sick sound and obviously fearful. I know because I startled one last night when I went out on the deck at 5 am and heard it for the first time myself as she bolted for the woods, alerting her companions.

I couldn't beat one to death, but I could sure shoot one if I caught it eating my garden or flowers. That is, if I knew how to shoot a gun. heh I know plenty of people who would love to have the meat.

I haven't had even one deer in my yard the whole 6 years I've lived here, though, so I haven't had to deal with that. Armadillos, skunks, and squirrels are what I have problems with....they all dig in my flower beds and sometimes uproot or break something. This year the squirrels did something new...they bit off pieces of my shrubs! They bit a piece off of my smoke tree and also a butterfly bush, and they totally mowed down a small camellia bush that I had rooted from another one in my yard....I was so proud of it, and it was growing nicely. We have recently purchased a live squirrel trap, but only because I don't know how to shoot a gun.

I hate deer. They are overpopulated and no longer have any natural predators since we killed them all off.
