If you fertilize the lawn where they overtake with some weed and feed it should kill them or use what your local greenhouse guy recommends. You can spray with Roundup although that would temporarily kill the grass it hits. I've got vinca vine that gets out into the lawn and the weed and feed kills it.

I never heard of anyone actually planting morning glory, they are considered a noxious weed here (picture in link). We use roundup on them when they pop up.
