Can somebody recommend one of these products of seed and perhaps other matter that one throws on a dead patch of their lawn to make it green once more?

Check out this website to help improve the look of your lawn:

My neighbor suggested this website. They just fixed their lawn. We need to start on ours.

I used something that came in a plastic bag and looked like a cotton mat. It grew fast and blended in fine. You can terar it apart and put pieces wherever you need it. I don't remember the brand. I usually won't buy anything Scott so maybe it was generic.

I used Scott's seed - I forget the exact name but it is supposed to grow anywhere. I have a very shady yard and I thought I'd give it a try. It has a soil material mixed in that shows when you need to water. It seems to work really well but you need to use a lot of it and its not exactly cheap. Almost everyplace I've used it has sprouted really well though.

I use a product called " Patch Master ". it is a mix of seed, paper pulp and fertilizer. I mix it with a good compost or planting mix and use it to patch bare spots on my lawns. The paper pulp helps retain the water so that the seeds do not dry out between waterings.

Did it function as advertised? Any complaints?

I have no complaints with Patch Master. The blue color and paper pulp keep the birds from eating the seeds and the pulp keeps the seeds moist far longer than without.

Find someone that sells sod and ask if they ever have scraps. You might just pick up what you need for free.
