I am in AL - same area - and I would kill the weeds with Round up which will be ok to plant 7 days later. Then prepare the soil and lay bermuda sod. Seriously. In 2004 we bought our house in Madison, AL and moved in DEC 20th. They had laid the sod 2 days before. We just watered well and had no problem. It was beautiful the next spring - after we got rid of the weeds that were in the sod! If you do it now, it will be fine. Builders are still laying sod as we speak. I would sugest you go to www.walterreeves.com and click on lawns and study all of it. Will give you some good ideas.
