I know LaPuente very well and I know what I would do: Pick all the fruit and then put whatever you can't use in a box at the curb with a sign that says, "Free/Gratis". You are going to make people you don't even know very happy.
When I moved from Orange County I got rid of all kinds of stuff this way. I don't think anything sat at the curb for more than an hour. Somebody driving or walking by would pick it up. They were happy, I was happy.
I don't know if this is just an "L.A. thing" or not, but it is very common and, I think, works well for all concerned.
Well, a lot of the tangerine problem was solved. We had a bunch of rainstorms in a row, and it seems to have oversaturated the tangerines. They aren't used to a lot of water because we hadn't even been watering the tree then bam rain. It also brought pretty cold temps and froze a lot of the oranges. I think many of the oranges are still ok, though. We're going to check again tomorrow to see. If so, we'll be giving some away probably. My niece came over one day and made us plant some tangerine seeds. Haha. The cutie actually thinks they'll grow into trees.
