I saw them in Texas when I was a kid......we were visiting relatives out in the sticks.....
We have seen them in Virginia, Georgetown, etc......during the summer.
Don't they just light up during some kind of mating ritual or something like that? It's just one sex, right or no?
Hmmm, I don't know. I haven't seen them yet this year. I always associate the lightning bugs with the month of June... here.
I forgot when I saw them in Texas, (heck, that was decades ago.....I just remember that we caught them in Mason jars and put them by our beds and used them as night lights).....definitely summer though.....
We saw them in Virginia during the last part of June through July 4th or so and then we flew home.....
We used to catch them and feed them to a toad we'd have in the garden. it was cool watching his stomach glow. Then I read that they are kind of poisonous.
Not sure what forum this should be in, looks like it should be gardening...
Anyway, I noticed fire flies (lightning bugs) out this evening while watching the space station fly over... anyone else have these out yet?
I really haven't checked but I don't think so, we do have the damn knats everywhere, inside and out....
