Not sure what forum this should be in, looks like it should be gardening...

Anyway, I noticed fire flies (lightning bugs) out this evening while watching the space station fly over... anyone else have these out yet?

I haven't seen lightening bugs since the 60's when I was a kid in Texas and we'd catch them by the jarful on warm spring evenings.

Magic.

*sigh* Never seen another one.

Not yet. The nights have been too cool. They'll be here in another couple of weeks though. Our temperatures seem to be warming up. The backyard is full every night during early summer. Few lights and lots of daytime hiding places help.

Yes, saw some a few weeks back already.

There is a huge hayfield (about 200 acres) near our cabin in Arkansas that is positively stuffed with lightning bugs in the summer. It's a magical sight that I wish everyone could see.

I see them every day but they aren't lighting up yet. We don't usually see them til mid June but we're running a month or so ahead so it won't be long!

I usually don't see fireflies in my area (NW Indiana) until late July. They really get to lighting up my yard in mid-August.
