Part of St Augustine or some weed? (growing, grass, leaves)

First time home buyer here so I'm still trying to learn about lawncare. In the past few weeks, I have noticed these "pods" growing out of my St Augustine lawn. When I pulled a few out, the leaves looks like St Augustine. Or is this just some weed?

That's part of the grass....I have always called it the grass seed....

Agree with H3.

When your St. Augustine starts going to seed that is good indication that it needs a mow. You don't necessarily want your St. Augustine to propagate by seed in a healthy, established patch.
