While doing some research on Ancestry.com, I had undercoverd that my great-grandfather was drafted in the 1st World War. I'm unsure, where--or if possible--to locate his military records or not.

Google "World War I Records" and it will give you several leads. I don't know how complete it is, but it's worth a try. Good luck.

You may have just found a draft REGISTRATION card, which is not the same thing as being drafted.

What you are looking for is where the records are archived. St. Louis is the desgnated archives for Military Service - all branches; I'm not sure about Coast Guard or WACs. National Archives and Records Administration

Some states like Missouri (which has an excellent system) have military records on-line for those who served from there in just about every war. Often it's part of the secretary of state's website.

Mo. does have good digital records. I wish other states would take their lead!

Search the Library of Congress military databases. They are free for the index and often for the information, online. I got a full Civil war record and pension file for a g-g-grandfather; it wasn't that expensive. What you see on Ancestry is what they decide to post as databases and often from the NARA and LOC databases.

FWIW, I have my Dad's WWII enlistment document though the LOC database -- and while Ancestry says they have that, his records were not there. I contacted them and told them where the record was and asked why it was missing... they checked. It was input ( by them) incorrectly and it showed as garbled text. They corrected it after I showed it to them.

Stick to govt. records at the LOC.

Is that the same as the National Archives above?

I'm gonna get my gf's WWI records and his immigration records too, if possible.

I found my grandfathers WW1 military record through Ancestry.com which I believe connected me to this NARA genealogy site:
