So many years ago 1950's to be exact, my fathers biological father and his mother got a divorce. I don't know what transpired but his mother (grandmother) cut off all ties to his father, and my father (who was only around 8 years old) never saw his dad again. Until a few years ago we didn't even know this to be the case. Anyhow we were able to find hospital records and a marriage certificate (neither has his social security number). We believe he may have gone back to puerto rico, he would be 87 years old if still alive. We have hit a halt in finding what happened to my grandfather. At this point what would be the next step? Most of these pay sites (which i have yet to use) look like they are not going to help at all. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I found relatives on Facebook on my grandfather's side of the family as I knew my grandfather had 5 brothers. So the relatives I found were 2nd & 3rd cousins and some of know what happened to the older relatives.
I am trying to find a Marvin E Baker born in the mid 30's. Worked as a roofer with his brother somewhere is So California, and also at a saw mill in Cave Junction OR in the 60's
I had a similar problem w/my father -- All I had was his name, an approximate age, that his parents were from Chicago, and that his father was a dentist. By working through Ancestry.com (free at the library), I was able to tie down a starting link from the 1930's census. From there, I simply started linking backwards ... until the lineage surprisingly reached all the way back to the 1500's. Then, I expanded the links I did find on the internet.
I've found that the newer lineage is actually more difficult, since the newest census available is 1930 (1940, as of 4/2012) -- In this digital age, the amount of readily available, free, online information is pretty amazing. Good hunting!
