For years I had been searching for my birth father. I was given just enough info from my mother to always fail in this search. What complicated things was that I was born in California but I currenly live in New Jersey. Recently I learned that I could order yearbooks on amazon.com for $59.95 each.
I began ordering yearbooks from the surrounding areas where I born. If he wasn't in it I would ship it back for a refund (minus $3.99 shipping). By the third book I found my birth father. His name was very close to what I was told. Once I found his real name I found his address/phone on www.pipl.com. We are now talking & are planning to do a paternity test in the coming week. I'm 46 years-old & he's 62. He never knew about me but does remember my mother & is glad to explore the possibity.
Yesterday I learned that if a yearbook is available on amazon.com then it's available for viewing on classmates.com too. I signed up yesterday for 1 year at $19.95 (expires on 2-1-2012). If you can't afford to purchase either of these options let me know & I can help look for you. Email me at RedFoxNJ@comcast.net. Remember, if it's not available on amazon.com then it hasn't been scanned on classmates.com either.
Are all yearbooks available on Amazon? I was thinking of calling the local high school to see if I could see their yearbooks to find my grandparents but this area is a little funny when it comes to that kind of thing (a non-school person entering an educational facility for non-education related research). It would be great to be able to order the yearbooks myself.

You might also want to check Ancestry.com. Yesterday I came across yearbooks from schools in California. If you don't have a subscription I would be happy to look for you

Check at the school district's head office. They may have a historical archive there. It's even more likely than at the school itself, who's concerned with educating children, not making available the history of the school.
Also, check at any local libraries ... the historical, genealogical, public ... they often have collections from the area. And then you wouldn't have to go to each and every school.

I volunteered in the library of that school as a teenager. Being the dork that I am, I pored over the yearbooks that were in the backroom. I know the school has them but it's a matter of being able to see them.
The local historical society has some yearbooks, but not many. They have none from when my grandfather attended.
The local history departments in libraries often have yearbooks.
