I used Family Tree Maker for years, and when I decided to upgrade a little over a year ago, I really looked at all the programs I could find.... and went with FTM again.
For the life of my I can't remember why I did it. There was a completely rational well thought out reason, and it was borne out when I used the new program so I felt I was right...and forgot it.
And no -- it wasn't the leaves. They're cute.... and after my mom died, her first leaf made me cry buckets.

I was wondering if that would work. Now I know.
Okay, click on search this forum then click on advanced search. Put software in the keyword slot. Start the search.
This is the way all users are encouraged to seek out a thread on a given subject instead of opening repetitive threads for the same subject.

I wonder if the mods would give us another Sticky where we can post links to the best threads in this forum? It would make things so much easier.

I think I posted this before, but I use the free personal ancestral file that you can download from the lds site: familysearch.org.
You can upgrade to the deluxe version for a whopping $6.75. It is easy to use and I think that it is a universal format that the other softwares can read if you decide to send it to someone or upgrade to the other companies softwares at some point.
I like it, at least beginners can start right away and have it not cost them anything and get that info recorded.

I think there's a 2 sticky per forum limit.
The stickies up there now are redundant. Seems like they could be combined. I'd like a sticky for beginners How to Get Started because we have had a lot of people come on and ask that over and over. The software could be included in that sticky with a disclaimer about not endorsing any or whatever CYA it might need.
