Hi there, I am having so much trouble finding info on Sylvester C. Townsend born abt 1905. the rest of his family is buried in the Fayetteville Cemetery and Oakwood in Chittenango. He was my grandfather but my dad was not allowed any contact with as grandma Irene booted out after several affairs and they devoriced. he was a street car operator in the 30's but I've only seem to up with old articles in the Syracuse Newspapers one was a picture of him and his crew and the other was being arrested in a taxi cab theft over the price wars being capped at 25 cents by the yellow taxi cab company. would love to find his acuate birth and death info. thanks in advance for any help.

In 1940 he is in the Syracuse census as a boarder at 477 James ST.

Gender: Male
Race: White
Birthplace: New York
Marital Status: Married (but the original has a line through the "M" and a ?)
Relation to Head of House: Lodger

Street: James Street
House Number: 477
Inferred Residence in 1935: Syracuse, Onondaga, New York
Residence in 1935: Same Place

Household Members:
Name Age
Anna Conte 28
Sylverter Townsend 34

There are several family trees that include him at Ancestry.com. None give his dates, but a few give his death location as Onondaga County.

Your best bet might be to see if Onondaga County has a death certificate:

Onondaga County Clerk

Default Thank you for the info

I have been on Ancestry for close to a year now and about all I can come up with is the 2 news articles and the 3 census's as well. I believe the county clerk is proably my next step.Maybe he left the area after the 40's as it looks like he did not have much of a connection with his own family in the Chittenango area. they lived on Townsend road there. Thanks again. Ed Townsend

July 8, 1965
Eagle Bulletin, Dewitt News Times

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ann Townsend; a sister Mrs. Howard Hopkins of East Syrarcuse; two brothers, Carlton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gerald Townsend of Kirkville.

If you search Blanche Townsend at www.fultonhistory.com you will find many articles, including one that mentions her and her son Sylvester.

It's a free site that has old digitized NY newspapers.

Also search Lillian B. Townsend. I guess she preferred using her middle name.

I second this. I've found several mentions of family members in the papers of the fultonhistory.com collection.
