I see that you posted back in 2012, however, I've recently joined this forum and wanted to respond. I am related to Iona Bell Haynes Flansburg. I am a 1st cousin 2x removed of Iona Bell Haynes thru her father

Thomas Jefferson Haynes Jr. who is my 2nd great uncle. His father is my great-great grandfather (see below)
1862–1926
BIRTH 23 JUL 1862 • Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa
DEATH 1 SEP 1926 • Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa, USA

Iona Bell Haynes
1893–1972
BIRTH 18 FEB 1893 • Dayton Township, Cedar, Iowa
DEATH 12 FEB 1972

I have been researching my Haynes ancestors for years and 2nd great-grandfather

Thomas Jefferson Haynes Sr. is my
1828–1909
BIRTH 22 FEB 1828 • Pine Grove, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States
DEATH 25 DEC 1909 • died at residence 1575 Park Ave., Riverside, California

Thomas Jefferson Haynes Sr.'s father, William Haynes is my brick wall born abt 1791 in NY.

The Haynes are/were of German descent and I am still trying to determine what the original spelling of the name would have been.

Hi Wyomiles, so glad you saw my post and responded.

Your father is my second cousin. Iona was a first cousin. Thomas Jefferson Haynes, Jr. (your great grandfather?) is my gg uncle. Do you know if Iona Belle had siblings? If so, do you know their names? I have possible siblings for her in my tree, but need verification.

I have been researching the Haynes family ancestors for years. My maternal grandmother is a Haynes. I know that they are of German decent and have traced as far back as William Haynes born 1791 in New York state but this is where I have a brick wall. Since the Haynes surname is German and not English, I am researching variations of how the original name may have been spelled. I have been researching Hennes, Heynes, Heintz and Heyntz but with no clear path yet. I have a hunch that his father was in the Revolutionary War but nothing solid yet.

William Haynes married Rebecca Stanton in 1809 in Mount Pleasant, Wayne, Pennsylvania. They had 10 children to include my gg grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Haynes, Sr. I had traced William and Rebecca to Sandusky, Ohio in the 1850 census but cannot find them after that point.

Would love to know if you could add anything. Many thanks!

One of my cousins is deep into the Flansburg family and I am not sure how far he has gone into dads mother Ione but it might be worth asking him. He is Darin Flansburg. Here is a link to one of his pages.

The Descedants of Jan Jansen Van Flensburg

I am sorry but I do not really know a lot about grandma Ione and dad and his siblings have passed away so I cannot ask them. What names do you have and maybe one will ring a bell or I can ask my older brother about this.

OK it looks like that worked? Can you all see the pictures? If so you should see a 1905 Haynes family portrait with Father Thomas Jefferson on the left, then clockwise on the top, Grace Leola, Samuel Perry, Esther Verna, Ione Belle, and George.

Oh, wow! amazing, thank you so much for sharing this. So, I have been trying to locate George, I read that he was put in a children's home around Des Moine, Iowa shortly after Flora died. I have not had any luck.

That is so sad , how they put their kids in homes like that. I really do not know any more about them. Not sure how one would go about finding those records.

I was looking back through the photos and saw a note after George's name that says he was Feeck or Feech after adoption. So You might find him now ? Let me know if you do!
