Pretty masculine, in an "old man" (or "old Jewish man") kind of way.

I also think a lot of Biblical names do have a certain "strength" or "toughness" behind them. Isaac to me sounds mature, scholarly, wise. But maybe because every Isaac I've ever met has been an old, wise, educated man.
It's certainly way more masculine than Shawn, Kelly, Finn, Jayden, or Trevor.
Maybe less "butch" than Dolph, Brutus, Alexander, Rocco, or Thor.
I'd give it an 8.

There are a lot of famous Isaacs, they all seem to be very masculine, probably rate themselves at least a 9.95.
Check them out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_(name)

If you are Jewish, it would be 9 on the manly scale. On anyone else, an 8.5 EXCEPT for Isaac Hayes, then the manliness factor is flat out off the manly chart.

Call him Ike for short if you want to ratchet it up a notch.

Other manly Isaacs,

Isaac Asimov, writer.
Isaac Brock, Major-General.
Isaac Brock (musician), lead singer in Modest Mouse.
Isaac "Ike" Davis, NY Mets first baseman.
Isaac García, Mexican long-distance runner.
Isaac Hanson, musician, guitarist in Hanson
Isaac Hayes, singer.
Issac Luke, New Zealand rugby league footballer.
Isaac Newton, physicist.
Isaac Peral, Spanish scientist, inventor of the Peral Submarine.
Isaac Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment
Isaac Jové Rubí, Spanish footballer.
Isaac Slade, lead singer in The Fray.
Isaac Watts, hymn-writer, football player.

Very masculine in my (uneducated) opinion. A clear 9.

Way more masculine as Elliot, Leslie, Stacy, Lonny, Tim, Lennard, Maynard.

It is relatively masculine.

Hector is the most masculine name, however.

I might hasten to add that how you pronounce Isaac.

If you pronounce the as in Izick, you drop 2 points. But a strong I-ZAK, you maintain a lot of manliness.

But more importantly, a name does not a man make only the man who bears it.

Shouldn't this be in the parenting forum? What's it got to do with genealogy?

Maybe it's here (Genealogy) because it ties back to the son of Abraham. Yes, it is a Jewish name, though I've known few Jewish kids with this name, if any. I did know quite a few Adams, though.

I think it's more popular for black kids.

As for names, the one I like least for a boy is Max. It's like naming your kid Larry. At least they could be named Maximilian.

I also think any boys name that ends in an "a" or "ah" sound, feminine in Latin languages, isn't that great - Joshua, Jonah, Micah.
