I found an 1848 migration record from the Norwegian parish of Lyngdal and I'm having some trouble reading it. Anyone who can help, I'll be eternally in your debt.

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no...0103061066.jpg

On the second page, number 2 - April 5, Apelone Gundersdatter Fladen - what does it say in the last column? It looks like Kobbervig to me but there is no such place I can find (looking at other entries, that column seems to be the destination location since further down on the page it clearly say New York and America). I'm pretty bad at reading handwriting, especially when it's foreign.

This ancestor did not appear in US records until 1851, I have been unable to find her on the 1850 US Census so it would make sense if she left Lyngdal (where she was born, I have her baptism record from the same parish) for some other location in 1848 and didn't wind up in the US until 1851. So in order to know where she was in between these years, I need to know what it says! Help, please!

Kobbervig is probably a name - the person whom they were going to see.

Thanks! I did notice on my Google search that Kobbervig is a surname but would they enter that instead of a place name? If I knew what the column header said, maybe that would help (my attempts with Google Translate yielded nothing).

Default Not Norwegian, but Danish is close enough....

"Kobbervig" has to be a place name. The header "Til hvad Sted" lit. translates to "To what Place", as in where did she move.

"Vig" means bay or inlet in Danish/Norwegian, but as the Norwegians got their independence, spelling started to drift, so there's a good chance the location would now be known as "Kobbervik" or "Kobbervika" - and there are two "Kobbervikas" to be found in the Googlemap for Norway, but only one that looks inhabited: Kobbervika, Tvedestrand. That would be my first guess...

Thanks! That's very helpful - unfortunately, I can't seem to find Kobbervik in the parish records and the ones for Tvedestrand don't go back to the 1840s/50s.

When spellings changed, did B's get changed to P's at all? Because I see there's also a Kopervik, Rogaland - could that be another option?
