I thought some of you might find this interesting. I had done the Ancestry.com DNA test a while ago, and recently they started allowing users to download their raw DNA data for use on sites like GEDmatch.com. Here are mine below, and if anyone could clarify some of the info below, I'd appreciate it.
My results:
Expected ancestry through known genealogy:
50% German
25% English
25% Scottish
Ancestry.com DNA Results:
Central European: 49%
Eastern European: 25%
British Isles: 20%
Scandinavian: 6%
0 Unable to determine 0.01%
1 West_&_Central_German 44.38%
2 Scottish 21.58%
3 Orcadian 11.63%
4 LIT 9.94%
5 Lezgin 7.87%
6 French_Basque 2.10%
7 HU 1.39%
8 GE 1.10%
I don't really get what is going on with "percent calculation option 1". The Scottish seems way too high in mine. Option 2 seems to jive much more with my known ancestry, though I'm not sure why the LIT (Lithuanian?) percentage is so high. As far as the "West Asian" percentage, that seems to come up as "Baloch" in the Harappa diagnostic. It sounds like that is simply ancient remnant DNA present in many Europeans. I assume the "Lezgin" would be the same.

Thanks for the links. I actually did not see that FAQ link earlier. I am pretty new to the DNA side of genealogy (as you can tell) and it's all a bit overwhelming. I will check out some of those other links later.

While you receive approximately 50% of your total DNA from each parent, due to genetic recombination you may (in theory) inherit anywhere from 0 - 50% of a specific ethnicity from either parent.
