My Grandfather Was Married Breifly To My Grandmother
Cleo B Hart Daughter Of Andrew Jackson Hart And Lucinda
I Believe His Name Was Creed William (or William Creed) Robbins
According To My Grandmother (passed Away In 1964) She Says He Died In A Coal Mine Accident Close To St. Charles Va. The Mining Co. Name Is Unknown To Me At Present Time. He Died Before Social Security Took Place So No Records There. The Court House In Jonesville Was Reportedly Burned Down After 1930 And All Or Most Records Were Lost(marriage, birth, death Records)so No Help There.
The Only Thing I Know For Sure Is Death In Coal Mine Accident.
However Can Not Find Any Listing Of Coal Mine Accidents In Lee Co. Va. Between 1927 Thru 1930 That Has A Robbins Man Listed In Any Form Or By Any First Name. The Only Other Thing I Know Is That The Robbins Family (parents Or Siblings )didn't Like My Grandmother
And Were Possibly Well Liked Or Well Off Financially Or In Positions Of Respectability Within The Coal Mining Business,
I'm Quessing At This What I've Just Previously Stated .
All I Want To Do Is Find Out My Dads Family Roots On The Robbins Side Of The Family.
So If Anyone Knows Of A Robbins Man That Died In The 1920's In Lee Co. Va. Near St.charles That Was Married To A Cleo Hart (weither Only Known As Cleo Or Just By Last Name I Would Appreciate Any Help Locating My Family History.
My Dads Family Includes The Redwine Family ,carter Family, and Of Course The Hart Family , Lawson Family, Helton Family, tritt,
Necessary, rosett, and Many More But These Are The Primary Families
Check out the VAGenWeb Project (http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagenweb/ - broken link). US-Census.org has lots of censuses for the states, and a messageboard where you can ask people to do lookups. Ask them to do a lookup for your grandfather and grandmother in the 1920 Lee co. VA census.
I think a Genealogy forum would be a great idea. Even for folks like me who are too paranoid to post any personal/family information ;-) I'm sure there are lots of new online searchable databases continually appearing that most people probably would never find out about.
My subscription to Ancestry and the New England Historic Genealogical Society both ran out in December (after 3 years of membership) and I didn't renew because of the cost. I've already "mined" both for everything currently available and so right now they're too expensive for what they can offer me. I figured on rejoining Ancestry once the 1940 census is released, because I'll definitely need to search that one.
But I'd love to find obscure online local sources in towns and states that aren't widely known (places like Brunswick and Lewiston in Maine; Vevay, Indiana; Miamitown, Ohio ....) especially if they're connected to local churches or cemeteries or historical societies.
I have finally broke through my Brick wall regarding my Robertson research! I found someone in Scotland who is searching the same lines as me! I am so excited now! Instead of finding just my great great grandparents, I have now been able to go back 2 more generations! Keep the faith everyone, someday you'll be able to make it through your brick wall too!
I am suspecting more and more my 'brick wall' is that many of my maternal grandmother's people were from the 'wrong side of the tracks' AKA 'White Trash' and (probably) Black slaves and possibly Indians as well.
Lest someone call me a racist--------the above groups were not accepted by 'polite society' 100-150 years ago.
