I found out that my family immigrated from Ireland in 1754! I also found out that I still have cousins in County Mayo. They live in a small castle and take in tourists to supplement thier farm income. I found out that my last name-MALONE- was changed from-O'Maolioan-which in native Gaelic means "bald John" Apparently my family, after immigrating to America, became mountain people in the Carolinas and East Tennessee. from what i can gather they were apparently quite accomplished moonshiners!

Hey Dan, are you Socts-Irish or real Irish? My Irish is all Scots-Irish and they came over from Tyrone around the beginning of the 1700's.
I'm guessing since yours were from Mayo they'd be real Irish!

If your going to have a DNA Test done why not have the testing done that gives you results on both sides of your family.. instead of just your mom or just your dads side..
(Go here.. Find Ancestry by DNA using DNA Ancestry Services AncestryByDNA™ Autosomal DNA Test More Info...This one gives you the Percentage of genetic ancestry by DNA is calculated based on 175 known ancestry informative SNP markers. $240.00)
I had this done last year and I found out I am 75% European and 25% Native American..
I already knew most of my family was from the European countries But wasn't sure about the Native American part..Now I know.

Hi Inthesierras, and to you all from a cold, wet and windy England. Thanks so much for the information. I will get right on to it and have a good look at the sites you suggested. My ancestors married in England at a meeting place church/hall. I don't know what the equivelent would be in PA.
The land records sound interesting. I know he brought and sold some land in 1921. Has anyone any ideas how I could find out more details on this and where the records would be.
Many thanks for your help

Cool ArizonaBear... hope you get the reults your looking for. This test is so much better than the others that does just one side of the family and it dated my family back to Africia of course 75,000 years ago, Plus gave me my percentage I was looking for.
While Im at it I might as well ask...(This line is my brick wall) Does anyone have a John W. JONES born in MO (abt:1850-1870) and Mary FREEMAN born in KS (abt:1850-1870, death abt:1930)..child Everett Wellington JONES... in their family lines?
I am also searching for FREELIN.. they came over from Ireland most all moved out to Iowa..I have back to a Hugh Freelin born in Ireland abt 1830 ended up in Jackson, Montgomery, Iowa. married an Isabella also born in Ireland..

Yup I got mine within a day or two.. I didn't get my test results back for about 4-5 weeks though.. I am thinking of getting my mom and dad to do the test also.. So I can figure out which side of the family has the most Native American Blood..I am at a brick wall with this. (I have no names of whom was Indian in the family..Arrgghhh ) I do believe its going to be my dads side but I could be wrong.
