To give an idea of what autosomal testing can do, this blog explains it.

Okay guys, here is another more informative site on genetic genealogy. It is a bit technical but helpful, even for those who have already been tested.

Ancestry is having a $49 sale on its DNA kits. Use the freeshipDNA code to get free shipping on your order.

I've always been interested in my identity, but I have never gotten around to taking the DNA test. I was always jealous when I hear white/non-AAs talk about how their great-grandparents were from Ireland, China, etc, but I can't state from which [African] countries my ancestors came.

Keep in mind that not all African descendants histories are rooted in slavery. In addition, many Afrodescendants are mixed race ancestry, so there is wiggle room to embrace other roots & lineages too, & none of these or such trump or negate the other.

Why not just embrace that you are U.S. American. Keep in mind migration patterns & time of arrival.

I do see myself as American, but sometimes I feel as though something is missing. It would be great to know where the peeps came from and be able to know that history because there really is no such thing as an American culture as America is a melting pot of many different cultures.

A lot of white people that I know, myself being one of them, that "claim" a particular ancestry are just going off of where our last name comes from. Someone named Witzkowski may say theyre polish because their name is Polish, however they could be a mix of every white ancestry under the sun. My wife doesn't want to bother taking it because her family is Irish, German, Czech, English, and French. She was like, "Why would I pay for a test just to tell me Im a mutt?"
