Explain this. I find it hard to believe that African Americans historically could direct and control something as powerful as identity when they had little control over anything else.

African Americans DID in fact have control and power. African Americans and blacks does NOT mean helpless. It was only a small group of African Americans that advocated and created a one drop rule, and many WHITE gentry and upper class whites rejected such, because many of them had admixed race ancestry. It was later during Jim Crow from 1931 to 1967 that the one drop rule was imposed, and it was more so racist to whites than it was to blacks but it did do a lot of damage to blacks, because as a result many blacks these days and those that identify as such use it for their own person and political interests and games and as a form of racist bullying.

The one drop rule is stupid racist doctrine and it's dead but sadly it's many people of color that keep it alive.

It may not have soley been blacks and some AAs fault, but they sure as heck play a big role in keeping it alive.

It irks me to no end when blacks in interracial relationships support such foolishness or when whites in interracial relationships support such nonsense.

If blacks want BLACK children, they need to have children with other fellow BLACK spouses. This way there is no confusion or questioning.

It still baffles me that thing a white man's sperm or white women's egg can make a BLACK child. Uggh smh

Mariah Carey explains being "Multi-Racial/Bi-Racial". MC does a good job breaking it down. Kudos to MC.

I could also claim that I wrote this sentence in ancient Latin with just as much justification.

"Mulatto" is first generation, historically. Modern biracial people do not use the term, and often consider it pejorative.

Yes.

All shilly-shallying about percentages aside, in the US if a person can be identified by casual visual appearance as not being "all white,he won't be considered "real white" regardless how he identifies himself. Those whites who discriminate will discriminate.

The people who intend to discriminate do not care.

For those who do not intend to discriminate, it does not matter.

No, that did not work for my great-grandfather in Dayton, whose father was Scottish.

If you think that's really true, then you should be able to produce some period literature from the 1800s in which the authors portray mixed whites boldly proclaiming their racial mixture as respected members of their communities. Mark Twain? Anyone? If it was commonly acknowledged, it would have been mentioned in the period literature.

"The mayor of Sparta was a handsome man, dusky of skin reflecting the heritage of his African grandfather...."

No, you don't see that anywhere. When mulattos do appear in period literature, they are always tragic. Race-mixing is never portrayed positively.
