The info at MILLER, Athel J says his plane went down in the North Sea near Helgioland (Germany).

The casualty list has him as FOD. That stood for Finding of Death and was generally used when the body was not recovered (frequently missing in action and determined to have died).

This is Athel 's widow.
She married again to Jerry Mize a lieutenant commander in US Navy. Her obituary information is at find a grave. It appears a Mize relative maintains the entry. You can go to find a grave and contact her.

July 22, 1921 - October 15, 2009

SALEM - Higee Mize, 88, of Salem passed peaceably with loved ones near on Thursday, October 15, 2009. Higee, the daughter of Archibald and Helen Cates Caldwell was born on July 22, 1921 in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her children, Troy, Lance, Chris and Marla Mize; a brother, Archie Caldwell of Grass Valley, California; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Higee was a true shopaholic and worked in retail clothing and cosmetic sales. She was a long time member of the Salem Women's Business Association and the Salem Military Wives. Interment will be at the Punchbowl Military Cemetery in Oahu Hawaii where she will join her husband Jerry of more than sixty years. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
