Ancestry did offer mtDNA and Y-DNA tests up until 2014, but did away with them because there was not a big demand for them. They were not selling for ANcestry like they had hope. At the time they didn't even have 2 million people yet in their database for the atDNA testing. Now they have 15 million people in the database. I don't think they ever thought it would grow that fast in 5 years.
It's been 7 years since they launched their autosomal DNA test - 2012. Their mtDNA and Y-DNA tests didn't do very well because the results aren't generally useful for recent genealogy and being a genealogy site, that didn't appeal to most of their customers.
I ned them to put their memberships on sale again. I tried to check something today and it expired. I bought the six month and then a few days later it went on sale, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that it goes on sale a few days after. It's happened before.
