Are you sure it is a first cousin? PAUK posted this for you:
She is either a Great-Grandchild, Great-Aunt/Niece, Half Aunt/Niece, or 1st cousin.
All of those relationships are in the range for 1000cM.
Thinking about it all evening and coming up with the same thoughts. I also compared her origins with mine. A couple of surprises there as well. I have 62% England, Wales, NW Europe. 35% Ireland, Scotland. 2% France. I can't see her percentages but she also has England through Ireland and Scotland, no France but she DOES have Norway, plus Benin & Togo which is Africa! This is getting interesting! lol

Is this on ancestry? I think you uploaded to my heritage too? Ask her to upload there to see if you get a different set of common matches. I have matches there I do not have on ancestry. Lots of people buying their cheap tests.

Yes, on Ancestry. No, haven't uploaded on My Heritage but will look into it. Thanks!
When considering possible relationships, obviously age will have to factor in to your conclusion.
If DNA tests have been done to people on your mothers side, and your fathers side (cousins/aunts/uncles/parents), then check the "shared matches". She will match relatives from one side or the other. If she is alot younger, it she could be a niece or more likely a half niece.
If you have a half sibling from your unknown father, it is plausible for her to be the child of that sibling, making her your half niece.
That is the conclusion I finally came to...sort of. Any half siblings though I am assuming would be somewhere near my age, mid 70s, so a 40 year old could be either a child or grandchild. My kids are 54 to 60. I have grandkids ranging in age from 21 to 40. And no, we didn't all start our families really young. Some of my grandkids are stepkids. My own half siblings are ages 66 to 71 and all have kids in their late 30s/early 40s and grandkids in their 20s. No stepkids involved there though. So trying to figure out relationships by ages gets a tad complicated sometimes.
I've always been a tad confused about uploading my DNA info sooooo this time I have printed out your post on that thread so I can have the directions right in front of me to follow. I will do this tomorrow and see where it goes. Thank you!
Those high numbers are what fascinate me because it makes me think she's closer than my own full blood cousins? I did think niece or half niece.
The ranges can be huge for a relationship. My first cousin and I share almost 1400cm's so 1000 is not too high.
