Seeking information on the parents of Conrad Schnapp
Conrad Schnapp is my 4th great grandfather, I'm related through his daughter Eva
I'd like to discover his parents? and be able to look closer into his supposed German roots
I know all about his civil war service, and I found and added his service stuff onto his find a grave page.
My goal is to discover his parents? was Conrad the one who immigrated here?? the answers are unknown.
Conrad and the family seemed to have spent most of their lives in and around the Buffalo area of Erie County, even after Conrad died in the civil war, I've found records on the kids and grandkids and stuff.
But who were Conrad's parents? was he a first generation immigrant?

Baltimore Passenger List. Ship name is Hermann. Age 13. Came with Johann Schnapp age 24 which you can see if you look at the image of the ship manifest.
There are other family records if you scroll down...some with different spellings. Not clear if Margaret was his wife or daughter - or maybe they had the same name.
If you look up Johann Schnapp, there are a lot of records to sift through from that time period. Maybe he was an older brother? Or an uncle? Spellings of the name are all over the place.

This ship record seems to be from 1886, for someone born in 1873. The Conrad Schnapp the OP is looking for was born abt. 1816 and died in 1864. This is not the Conrad Schnapp the OP is looking for.

It looks you're saying he was married in NY, but the marriage record collection you've listed is "Germany, Select Marriages". Could you paste a link to his married record so we can see it for ourselves and understand it better?

Bavaria is a part of Germany. It may have been independent in 1860, which is why it was recorded as such on the 1860 census. But it looks like it's status would have been the same in 1850, so unclear why it wasn't recorded as Bavaria in 1850 too. It looks complicated (as much of Europe was): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Bavaria

Were they Catholic? I have had success obtaining Catholic Church marriage records in Buffalo from the 1800's. The German priests were especially verbose on these records.

In the late 1800s, nearly all of Bavaria was still Catholic. Even today more than half the population are. Random factoid, Pope Emeritus Benedict is Bavarian.
