Wow! Those would be tough to research in the censuses, I bet. Sometimes I lose track of all the different ways I have tried to spell names just in case that census worker got it wrong.

Well, I think your homie might just need to be spanked for giving her that name! Putting all that hassle on her for her whole life! What was he/she THINKING?!?!
Nereus (1838-1908), Narius (1819-1880) (I have two of them, uncle and nephew). Narius had a son named Narcissus, born 1842. Feriol was born around 1840s. Finis (1889-1947), Ferebee (died 1779), Fielding (1814-1877), Pius born 1788, Phineas (woman, born 1898). Pina Mae (1883-1930). Portlock (1750-1820). Reedy (male. 1909), Philander (1872-1957). Renver (woman, 1819-1888). Roten (born 1847, male). Rice (born about 1760s, male)
You may think I'm crazy but... My second daughter's name is Xochitl, pronounced So-Chee. (Rhymes with Sofie) She is Hispanic and this was the name of the Aztec Goddess of the Flowers.
She's 12 and the name suits her, and once you learn it it's easy to say. And I love the way it looks written down.
I also have a Calloway, his son was named Cornelius. And he had another son named Alvah. And one with first and middle named "Marquis de Lafayette."
Another one named "Cannon." And a "Levin," and a "Levin Fifer." Also a "Roderick Palmer." Also an "Ellender." A man named "Zalma Lee" and a woman named "Esther Alpha." And a man named "Dalpha."
I can't help but feel sorry for kids with weird names, and weird spellings, although weird spellings only seem to be stuck on girls. No one spells a boys names funny, like sticking in a y where an i should be, like Byll instead of Bill. Only girls have names where they have to constantly correct the spelling. Only girls get stuck with boy's names. Boys never get stuck with girl names. (Except in the Johnny Cash song.) So I'd have to say that boys win the name game.
A teacher friend told me about this one, a 13 year old girl with the name La-a. He couldn't begin to pronounce it. Can you?
