My grandfather on my mother's side fought in wolrd war 2 for the axis, [I'm Italian from both sides.]
Though he spent much of his time as POW of the British, and loved it. He later moved to Canada with my grandmother.

Just thought I would share this. Its the Merchant Marine Memorial site I started when my dad died in 2008. I continue to work on it in an effort to tell the stories of those who served on the M.S. Texas Sun out of Marcus Hook, PA. So far I have made contact with the living children of one of the men who served with my father and was able to provide them with photos of their father while he was on shipboard. I have also received a written account from another man who had also been on the ship.
My gggf was the adjutant general for the Mobile, Alabama regiment and was killed at the Battle of Chickamaugua (Atlanta). His newly born daughter was given the middle name Chickamaugua. I also have family members who fought in all wars having been here since the early 1600's.
My father was one of the first up the hill at Omaha Beach on Dday. His unit was so badly damaged that hardly anyone survived. He admired Patton and brought the Patton way of doing things home with him! All of his brothers served too, each in a different service. His gf was career military. My mother had an uncle who fought as long as he could in three wars up to an including VietNam. My deceased husband was a Marine recon trainer and one tough sob. We won't say where he was. His father was a mustang in the Navy and one of the DOD physicsts behind the smart bombs. Every male member of his immediate family was at Pearl Harbor the day it was bombed. My step son retires next year, military intelligence, as were my dad and husband.
My gg was a member of Marmadukes Raiders (Civil War 1863) in the Battle of Sprigfield, MO.
My ggggrandfather was on the other side in that particular battle. I wouldn't say he fought as I think his detail was made up of medics and orderlies who cared for the wounded. Guess we're lucky they lived to tell about it.
I wish I had a full list. I know I have a lot of direct ancestors who were in the Civil War and Revolutionary War, mainly. I know my great-grandad lied on his World War I draft card, said he was born in 1889 instead of 1899. I'm sure it was just a typo.
I know I had at least 2 male relatives who fought in Francis Marion's outfit during the Revolutionary War, in the Pee Dee swamp. This outfit would've been the one loosely portrayed in the Mel Gibson movie, "The Patriot".
