Actually one of my relatives (my favorite one from a historical perspective) brought the first mules back from New Mexico to Missouri that then became the famous Missouri mules.
The same guy who brought the mules back to Missouri also later bought and then sold Mare Island in San Francisco Bay which later became a major Naval shipbuilding facility.
hmmmmmmm you can always back it up with the morman site, they have the largest verified geneological info avail i believe. I was lucky, I do descend from Scottish royalty but was able to verify it with info from mothers grandmother's bible also.

I recently found a record of a horse trader. Those guys were the used car salesmen of their day.
The LDS site does have a lot of misinformation. I do like the 1880 census that is available now, haven't found any misnomers yet. What I really don't appreciate is their "sealed" records.
