My grandfather was in the British Army in WW1 along with his two brothers. He was in the Royal Garrison Artlllery (the big guns) and went to France in 1915 and was there until 1919. I have his 1914-1915 Star and his Victory medal.
My great uncle was captured at Dunkirk and another relative died in a Japanese PoW camp.

As much as I know:
1. W.W. I- A relative, but don't remember who he was to me (my oldest brother has a picture of him, but I haven't seen it in years now. I don't remember who he was).
2. W.W. II- 2 of my dad's uncles (my great-uncles).
3. Pre-Korean War - My father (he served while it was going on, but never got a chance to go there).
I have no evidence that any ancestor of mine ever fought in any war. (I'm proud to say I have upheld that tradition, as have my sons.)
There were uncles along the way, whom I know of, who fought in the Civil War (my dad's great uncle, Union) and WWII (3), and a cousin in Korea. None were casualties.

After my Blair line to 981 AD went down in flames...
Revolutionary War Confirmed - my mom's parternal ancestor (Hugh MacDonald) was captured by the British in South Carolina and nearly died at a POW camp
Civil War - Confirmed - my ggg grandfather Basil Lewis (of Harlan County, Kentucky) died in June of 1863 while fighting for the Union around Vicksburg MS. He died a month after Vicksburg, possibly from an infectious disease. Unconfirmed
- Based on the CW veterans data base it looks like two of my Hall ancestors (Preston and Alford, both of Harlan County, KY) served for on the Confederate side. I still need to confirm it is my P & A Halls and not some other ones though
- can't find my ancestor on the data base but it looks like a lot of my ggg Chumbley uncles in Casey County KY fought for the union
I am in the direct line from Absalom Pollard. He fought in the Revolutionary War. I had another ancestor in that war and my gggrandfather fought in the Civil War. He enlisted in Illinois. He ended up living in the Vetran's home in Los Angeles from 1897-1903, when he die
My father was in the Merchant Marines and then the Navy in WWII and recalled for the Korean War. His brother was in the Army during the Korean War and then also served in Vietnam.
My husband served in the Air Force...he was in Desert Storm, Bosnia, and Iraq. I have been trying to put together his records with my tree. I figure it will make it that much easier for my kids and grandkids when they want to know more about his military career.
Revolutionary War (Continental Army and Navy)
Civil War (Union-Massachusetts)
WW1 (Navy, destroyer)
WW2 (Army, First Infantry Division)
Vietnam( Army, 101st airborne)
Afghanistan (Navy SEAL)
Iraq (Navy SEAL)
The last two are the same guy. Not one fatality, on either side of my family. Must be good at dodging bullets! My grandfather in WW2 ended the war as one of only 6 survivors from his original platoon. He went from North Africa to Sicily to Omaha Beach, through France, lost his toes in the Ardennes, into Germany and all the way to Czechoslovakia.
