If you're still here, let's continue the conversation. What is your grandfather's name?

Default Ainis relatives from Messina

My great grandfather's name was Giovanni Ainis (his father spelled it Ainissi). He was born in Messina in 1858. His father was Carmelo Ainissi (as listed on his birth record). Lucrezia sounds familiar but I don't think they're siblings. Maybe cousins?

Default Ainis relatives from Messina

Looking for anyone related to the Ainis family from Messina. I posted the original questions in 2007, but didn't get the replies. I'm re-posting here for an update. I've done extensive genealogy research on the Ainis line and would like to compare notes with others of the same name. Thanks.

I would love to hear more about the Ainis family from you!

Best wishes,

Hi,
I realise this is quite an old post but hope someone may still pick this up.

I have recently discovered that my Gt Gt GM was Angela Ainis (written Ainissi) born in Messina, Sicily abt 1836. She moved to Constantinople in Turkey and married another exile, a Pole called Theodore Puchalski about 1852 and lived out the rest of her life there.

I know nothing more about her Sicilian origins but hope she might be connected with one of the respondents to this thread. Someone called Placido Ainis from Messina was later a Godfather to one of her children, so I am wondering if he may have been a brother.

Any possible leads would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Angela

Angela-sweetpea,

I am also related to the Ainis/Ainissi line from Messina. I don't know a Placido Ainis though. What do you know about your GG grandmother so far? Is she related to Giuseppe Ainissi (born about 1798) or his father Rosario Ainissi?

As much as I can tell, this is my line:
Rosario Ainissi (ca 1770) married to Maria Russo
|
Giuseppe Ainissi (ca 1798) married Santa de Francesco
|
Carmelo Ainissi (ca 1820) married Grazia Barbera
|
Giovanni Ainis (ca 1858) married Maria Scuderi

Hope to hear back from you soon.
Lana

Messina civil records are available online:

Messina | Antenati
Messina | Antenati

Angela, you say your ancestor was born in Messina around 1836? These are birth registers for that time period: Nati | Antenati

In fact, here's an Angela Ainis born 1836: http://www.antenati.san.benicultural...temId=28283166

You'd have to look through the others though to see if there's any other Angela that might fit the bill, assuming you don't know her parents names.

I didn't see any other Angela Ainis' born in 1836 but there are a couple born in 1837 so if you're not sure on the year, you will need to do more research to figure out which one is your Angela, and whether there's also any possibilities in 1835, 1838, 1834, etc:

I also didn't finish looking at 1837 - some of the folders didn't have indices.
