My grandmother's family with the last name, Ainis, were from Messina. Does anyone know how I can locate any distant relatives that may still be in the area?

Default Ainis Relatives

My name is Nancy "Ainis" Pappas and I traced our family tree from Messina and then back to Greece.

What are the names of your family members?

Thumbs up Ainis Relatives In Messina

From what I've been able to learn, my great grandfather was the first Ainis from Messina to arrive in the United States in 1878. A few years back I did some extensive research about the family that you might find interesting. I don't know if this forum sends directly to your email address or only posts so I'll wait to make contact with you before blabbing on and on. LOL

Hope to hear from you soon!

Anyway I had a look to italian whitepages and found about 18 people having Ainis as family name still living in Messina...do you have more information about your grandmother?
Best regards,

My great-grandmother was Lucrezia Ainis (b.1860, probably in Messina). She married Ernesto Capaccio. They had several children, and lived in Messina until immigrating to New York City in the 1890s. My grandmother, Emma Capaccio, was born in Messina in 1882. She was the eldest of Ernesto and Lucrezia's children. Her sisters were Lillian (Letteria), Esther, and Ersilia.

Hi, Nancy -

As I mentioned, my great-grandmother was Lucrezia Ainis. Her family were cotton textile manufacturers, and they were quite prominent in Messina. Then, the 1908 earthquake happened, and the family moved to Napoli. Of course, by then, Lucrezia's family had been living in New York City for ten years (and she herself had died in 1905).

I would love to hear more about the Ainis family from you!

Best wishes,
Phil
