We'll be moving from NM to OR requiring 2-3 overnight stays. Have discovered that many hotels/motels don't even allow cats. Now we have two cats and a 70 lb. dog. He's not a barker. Anyone know of hotels/motels which would allow a large dog and two cats?
There's a ton of places on the web that cater to people traveling with pets. We've stayed in some really nice places. I can't remember which pet site I found our motels, but here's a few links to start:
My dog is medium sized, but Comfort Inn accepted both dog and cat on the way to Oklahoma from California. And its a nice place. Super8 is more of a discount chain, but they do have nice rooms and accept pets. I don't know about dog size but call them and find out. I know that if you can't find anywhere else, Motel 6 accepts pets pretty much without fuss. Its not the ritz, but for an overnight stay its okay. And with a dog its sometimes convient since they open to the outside rather than an inside hallway.
You may pay a pet fee at a lot but not all chains. Some the first pet is free and the second isn't.
I don't remember where but there is an online list with all the hotel/motels that take pets and what they charge or don't and what pets they take. I remember seeing it mentioned here a while ago. Anyone remember?
Many places say they accept pets. But then you read the fine print and realize they have weight limits. ~sigh~.
We switched to Marriot Residence Inns and have been very very happy with the experience.
You can even leave your pets in the room and run out for a meal as long as you leave the little plastic "pet in room" sign in the door.
Great service IMO. They tend to have dog-walk areas with scoop-bags and in-room kitchens (fridge/stove/microwave) which can be super-handy if your pets are on a special diet.
Check out LaQuinta, not sure about weight requirements but I think most (?) allow dogs (and prob. cats), saw several small dogs on a recent stay in one (one LaQ had a refrig. and microwave, the other in another location had neither).
I also have been researching this as I will be driving down to Atlanta with my 2 feline friends. I researched Motel 6 and they seem to be very pet friendly and have many locations across the country. Good Luck!
Holiday Inn and Ramada have been good to me; but it's been a few years. Best Western hotels vary.
Here's a tip. Tell the reservation clerk that you have a very old dog.
Thanks. Tell them he's a very old dog? Age might be more important than size? I would've thought an older dog might have "control" problems--maybe I'll just say he's very mature and well trained.

Thank you. We normally stay in Comfort Inns and know they do not take large dogs (he's a labrador mix). So glad you reminded me of the outside door option--would be bad for our escapist cats but easier for the dog.
