Have you thought about Nashville or Knoxville? We currently live in Banning,CA(hate it, only here because of work). We have been to both cities a couple time & love them. We like Knoxville better because of the Smokies. I need mountains near! I know exactly how you feel, we have been trying to decide for a couple years where to go. The only reason we hesitate about TN is because all our family is in CA & NV & that's really far away, but we will probably do it anyway next year! My cousin moved from Huntington Beach to Nashville 4 years ago & they love it. They have not be sorry for moving there at all.
We were thinking about Corvallis, OR also, but need to go up there & check it out.

Update! We ended up moving to Portland, Oregon. Rivers, waterfalls, mountains, tons of trees and walking / hiking / biking trails. We have a view of the city and river that is to die for. We're loving it. We're in the middle of winter now, and it has been quite mild. Sure, it rains, but we woke up to sun this morning. It gets into the 30s sometimes, and even snowed once, but we're totally digging it.

The rest of the year is simply gorgeous (we moved up in August) and we're looking forward to experiencing an entire spring and summer here. There are snowy mountain views, white water rafting, friendly people... man, this place really has a lot going for it.

We decided to rent for a year and see what happens. One of the things that really stands out about this place is that there is always something going on in the city, and it's free most of the time. Just recently, we enjoyed the Macy's day parade, and a bunch of people playing Christmas songs with bells. Let alone, the entertainment in the square that is happening all the time.

We'll see where this takes us. So far, loving the scenery and the people.

Glad you've found your place. If you get a chance take a ride out this summer to Hood River, great waterfalls to visit along the way, watch the windsurfers in the gorge and great beer awaits you at Double Mountain and Full Sail Breweries.

Portland does love their beer, since it's not your thing maybe try Mike's Ice Cream between 4th and 5th Streets on Oak.

Florida would have that . I'm in south west fla ( Naples)and you can find that all here and in Estero also. We do have hot summers but very mild and enjoyable winters and we are WAY cheaper than Cali (my bro lives in beverly hills) we still have the beach so lots of water sports , canoeing , bikes etc we are 1 1/2 hours from Tampa 3 to Orlando and 1 1/2 to Miami/south beach
