I'm in my 30s and looking to relocate to someplace where I can use a golf cart for daily activities such as shopping. Are there any golf cart communities or places with golf cart paths with no age restrictions besides Peachtree City in GA? Anywhere in the US is fine.

55+ communities can have up to 20% I believe under 55. I own a place in a 55+ community, (and a golf cart) and I bought it when I was in my 40's

You really need to check out The Villages in Florida, as it is the biggest golf cart community in the world, with over 80,000 people. (Will be 100k within a few years.) Everything is accessible by golf cart.....everything.

There ARE younger folks there too. It is nice to be able to enjoy all an area has to offer before you get too old to.

Default The Villages

@ Frank. Thanks for your help. Are there apartments in The Villages or just homes?

There are villas.....but I do not think they rent month to month, but I could be wrong.
Do a google search on "TalkoftheVillages". That is a VERY active local Villages forum where all of your questions could be answered.

If you are really considering it, there are always owners that rent out their place.....highest rents are during the snowbird months, but you could rent a place down there this time of year for a song, and really check it out for yourself.

It is not for everyone, but it really is a one of a kind place. Dancing and music every night at both downtown areas, etc, etc.
You will read a lot of stuff online, both good and bad, but the bottom line is that even in this economy folks are buying there everyday, and the place is growing like weeds. The folks there seem VERY happy to be there.

Up here in NY, I am the 2nd oldest guy in our Dept. In Florida I'm one of the "kids" Love it.

Default The Villages

I just called The Villages and was told in order to live there one person has to be at least 55. Are there any other places for people under that age?

Eric, that info they told you is wrong. I just spoke to folks who own there and they are not 55 yet. The Federal law states that 20% can be under 55. I will do more checking.

No one 55 or older. What they told you defies common sense, in that what if say two people bought a home there...one 45 and one 55. The 55 year old died. Would the 45 year old be forced to sell? I think not.

It is my understanding that a "55+ community" is a federal designation stating that 80% or more are 55 or older, and that there are restaurants, etc, within its confines......

I am awaiting more info, and will keep you posted. I have been active on that local forum for years and if what you were told was the case, there would easily be many posts about that. There are many folks visiting there regularly on "lifestyle visits" who are < 55, but are looking towards the future.

You could also contact some of the many Realtors serving The Villages.....they surely would know.

Default The Villages

Just spoke to a realtor and he said I could live there, but when I called the number for The Villages someone said I couldn't. Who's wrong and who's right and why is there confusion?
