You'd be amazed how much that thing holds.
Just remember to back it up as high as possible.
Stagger-
Mind posting what you paid and size of your house?

I may be moving from CA to MO and am looking all all options: cubes, uhual/self-service; full service etc. Just looks expensive all around!

Thanks,

Mobile/portable containers are generally picked up and delivered using some type of undercarriage fork lift. Occasionally some are lifted with slings. They are NEVER intentionally turned upside down or on their sides.

Local, intracity transportation is usually provided on spring-ride freight trailers. Longer distance linehaul transport can involved either spring-ride freight trailers and/or intermodal containers shipped either on container-on-flatcar or trailer-on-flatcar railroad tracks. The method of transport depends on the company hired, the size of the container being used, and the origin and destination of the shipment.

Equipment testing that simulates a normal over-the-road trip comparing spring-ride trailers vs the special air-ride equipment used by full-service movers shows that the contents are subjected to much higher levels of vibration and stress on mechanical spring suspensions.

That means that you need to not only pack and protect the contents inside each carton, but also pad, secure and immobilize all of the contents inside the container. If the container is not filled all the way to the ceiling, some type of extra padding, air bag, or dunnage should be used to fill the void. Otherwise every time the container/trailer is subjected to some type of external pressure (i.e. - a jolt, being dropped, or rammed in a cross-dock freight environment) the contents will be subjected to the stress.

Hi Frank, wanted to post my update.

We had ordered two cubes to go from Ohio to FL. Cost was about 2K. The drop off went fine. They gave me a four hour window for the day I requested. That day the driver called me at the start of the window and was there in 30 mins. Unloaded the cubes. Very nice and professional.

I was amazed at how much they hold! As we packed I thought we could have gotten away with only one cube, however my husband decided to take a few more things and at the end he tied down things that had gaps so they wouldn't move.

The pickup went smooth. By the way, you don't have to be there for the pickups which helps. Our cubes got to FL right on time. We arranged for some moving help at the FL end, which was WELL worth it, imo.

Side note- I checked into moving help on the FL end with AFB's services first, which seems to be subcontractors, and they were all booked, but I did call a bit late. The charge would have been $495 for 2 guys for 3 hours.... the minimum. I ended up calling a local company and we got 2 guys for 2 hours for $180. It was sooo worth it and all the stuff was out of the cubes and in our 4th floor condo in less than two hours. NOTHING was damaged.

That was on a Friday.... same day they were delivered. I called that day and requested a Monday pick-up (they do NOT do weekends).

Pickup went smooth... actually we went out to lunch and the cubes were gone when we got back. All in all, I think it went well, and I would use them again

Tamajam, while you're entitled to have your own opinion, you criticisms of ABF's U-Pack Moving ReloCube container and your warning for other to avoid it are both misguided and unfair.

What is the cubic capacity a one (1) ReloCube. The interior dimensions are approximately 70" x 82" x 93" (DWH). Now what are the cubic measurements of an "average one-bedroom home or apartment"?

There is no correct answer because the contents of every home are different. How many cubic feet of household goods or personal effects did you have when you contacted ABF for the quote? What was the load density factor you achieved after you packed your things inside?

A moving professional would normally load approximately 2000 lbs into ABF's 300 cuft. ReloCube. An experienced do-it-yourselfer might achieve 1500-1800 lbs. A new first-time shipper probably will only get 1000-1300 lbs.

The container never changed size. What's the difference?

I just had one U-Pack, relocube, shipped, cross country, and contents all fine. Furniture included a Grandfather clock, which the loaders strapped tightly to avoid any problem. When I opened some of the boxes, not even one thing had moved! They were beyond accomodating and polite, too. Only complaint would be I think the cost was a bit high. The cube held about 45 small boxes, along with clock, deacon's bench, desk, straight back chair, rocking chair and bicycle. Cost was around 2200.00 I got a 50.00 discount via yelp and told them that at time of booking. 2nd cube would have been an extra 700.00
