Just remember girl, you opened yourself wide open to opinions, good or bad, when you stated that your boyfriend wants to open a tattoo shop. I don't have any, but that is my choice. Obviously, at 21 yrs old, opening a tattoo shop somewhere isn't the same as going to a school to become a nurse, lawyer, mechanic, welder.......anything that takes going to a school to do. I really don't think an "ink applying" person is considered a profession, even though from what I've seen on tv, it sure takes artistic skill/talent! Unfortunately, the tattoo shops that I've drove by weren't in the most desireable areas of the city. With that being said, opening one close to a military base or Harley dealership would be primo! Good luck to both of you.

Oceanside, CA. Only because it's right outside Camp Pendleton Marine Base and the tattoo shops here are always so busy. Honestly, you may want to look by military locations as a big portion of the guys and gals get tattoos.

What about Dallas TX? Hotter than hell for months, and tattoo places seem to be doing alright even with this economy. Lots of motorcyclists, vets, etc.

Would not suggest Savannah, GA. They already have two amazing tattoo shops there; clean, bright, and professionally run; and several "independents" - one at the flea market! - whom I wouldn't trust with my skin.

SumMERVille, SC - I do not advise anyone young to go there. Most of the military has left the area, and the whole area is more concentrated on gated communities, snowbird attraction, and the county finances have suffered after the housing collapse (means fewer county services, plus more arguments about whose jurisdiction is where, etc). Things are more set up for an upper-middle-class or active-elderly lifestyle there. Plus there are two attitudes you probably wouldn't like - the longtime residents' attitude toward newcomers, and the increasing underbelly of crime and poverty/joblessness that is causing rents and prices to escalate especially in not-very-good neighborhoods. None of these types of folks will be amenable to a tattoo parlor, except the increasing lower-class - whom you probably would have problems with. I would suggest Myrtle Beach or Georgetown areas, except that they are pretty full-up with tattoo parlors, too.
