I'd re open your thoughts on the East Coast.

I grew up in MN (22 years there) and have lived in CA now for 23 years. If I were you I wouldn't come to CA either - it's very bleak right now as far as prospects for employment from what I can see.

I'm only here 3 more weeks - I got a job in Maryland and will be moving to the DC area. I have a distant cousin in Baltimore (who I haven't seen for 20 years) but it is a connection - no matter how small. That's it.

However the job is great, the opportunity is amazing --- and as much as its a little scary it's also a fresh start.

I was going to suggest Colorado for the OP.

I have no experience renting a property, but I know plenty of people who do it. I bet people have rented with a pool before, too. I'm sure there's insurance upon insurance (or your homeowner's insurance?) that would cover such a thing. And I bet you can require your renters to have some kind of insurance of their own as well.

I'm renting a condo from a private owner (not a complex) and they used a property management company for renting/leasing. So the management company deals with everything and acts as the go-between (maintenance, problems, inspections, ect). If you could find a company like that it would make it pretty easy to rent your property while you lived out of state.

well, if you don't want to move where you don't know anyone (can't imagine why) have you talked to anyone you do know that you would live near? Just a thought.........

She currently lives in Phoenix, so it sounds like cheap and warm all year are just not enough at this point...

mistygrl092, I might suggest looking at California again - it's a huge state, and it's not all as expensive as San Fransisco. In fact, if you go inland a little, it actually becomes a very affordable place to live - all the way from Northern to Southern California. I love the coast, but it's expensive - and it's not as sunny as it is further inland, and if you have SAD, sunny is important.

I just got back from San Diego, actually Poway for a new job. It was really boring where i was at, also besides i was in training. The job didn’t workout so im back in Phoenix. When i came back here i realized how less crowded it is here then SD, plus its allot bigger melting pot then phoenix. It probably would of been cool if I was making money and did stuff enjoying it more, but it seemed to beachy for me and i am at a different point of life in my early thirty’s that it wasn’t the place for me.I felt like to many people with different cultures and little lost. If i was making a really good salary there it probably would be a different story, but anyways I’m ready to move north or more east. Im trying to figure that out. I had several interviews this week and just wasn’t feeling it especially the heat and starting a new position in a city I want to get away from. I don’t hate it here. i just prefer to visit or come back maybe in the winter time. Im single and no kids nothing to hold me back so i am aggressivaly looking for jobs or worse case plan B is to store my stuff and rent my house out and look at subleting a cheap place in the city i choose. I am also looking at Nashville or my hometown in Milwaukee. I hope i find something soon.

I really don't want the headache and have read this market won't turn around for a decade or more - likely more. I too have been here eight years.

It's changed, hah? Seems to be getting more hot each year and there is barely any transition from hot to cold. It wasn't always like this. And the monsoons are more about blowing dirt around than anything else. I've been working on my pool for 45 minutes each morning just trying to get rid of the dirt. Denver isn't on my radar. I visited once and the "vibe" just wasn't there for me. What about Denver appeals to you?

Too, as far as renting, I have a real concern over the pool. I know plenty of people who do it. I know there are plenty of children who drown. I don't want that responsibility.
Hey Mistgirl,

Thats funny I have a pool too and been cleaning that thing since the last monsoon. Im sure tommorow I will be cleaning it from tonight(lastnight) storm. I think the temp is just terrible and like question everyday how I put my self in hell living here. LOL. You cant really do anything outside durring the summer and I kind of feel trapped in my house without a job. I was working in my last job 5 years making an alright wage and left for an oppurtunity making allot more money out in SD. I thought it would enhance my career, however it wasnt as good as I thought and ended up leaving 4 weeks later. I been applying like crazy at least 4-5 resumes a day, I also been on a few interviews with recruiters, however i am starting to think there not going to help me. Its like going down there to meet with them about jobs, then they never call back or say there is nothing going on. I am just kind of over the fact that i have to get ready then run around the heat. Its probably the worse time to look for a job LOL. I think if i decide to rent my house i have a friends family they might rent my home. My place it pretty small, and i purchased it last year as an investment property and been fixing it up, having the pool is a concern for me too. If they dont rent out my place, I am probably going to look for a property managerment to look over it. Thats the best thing so i dont have to worry about the house and dealing with the tenants. Where are you thinking about moving to in CA?

What was your career? I would look at what education or training you have and what the demand in a state is that you may like. My dad after the divorce moved and had to start over. At that time the economy was better so he went into business for himself. He also had to learn to push himself in ways of meeting people since he knew very few people. Are there any states that you know someone in that meet your other needs?
A mild climate that is affordable I was going to state NC though they can get some very hot and some cold too. Some depends on what part.

I was thinking Sacramento area until I read the unemployment rate is 12%. I think Phoenix is a horrible job market. I could be called a "discouraged worker."

Interesting article here and Phoenix (or AZ) makes the list:
