If people could give me some of their experiences on long distance travel with pets (preferably cats) I would appreciate it. I am moving from Springfield, Mo to Columbus, Oh in December with my cat. The jury is still out on whether I am hauling my belongings in a uhaul trailer or truck. My cat is one of those cats who meows the ENTIRE time she is in a car. I'm nervous about driving with her on a 12 hour trip. Other peoples' experiences on moving with pets would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I drove from Florida to Arizona years ago with 3 cats and my dog. I put 2 cats in 1 carrier and 1 separate. They meowed at first, for about 1/2 hour, but then quieted down. I put on classical music or easy listening--something soothing. I talked to them periodically, too. If you're calmer, they probably will be, too.You might try Rescue Remedy (liquid flower essence). It really helps everyone calm down! You could put a few drops in their mouth anywheres you can aim it w/ a dropper. Good luck

We've moved many times with dogs and cats. We try to limit the cat's time in the car to no more than 10 hours, they don't eat, drink or use the litter box in the car so 10 hours is a long time for them. The minute we get into the hotel room the litter box goes into the bathroom and food and drink gets put out. Ours usually meow for a while, and then fall asleep, Rescue Remedy can be very helpful.

We'll try to remember to get you off the roof of the car when the cats and myself get to the destination.

You might try "Feliway" cat calming spray. Spray a bit on a rag or t-shirt and put in the carrier with the cat.

You can try to get the cat accustomed to the carrier before the move, let them sleep in it or whatever.

My cat cried for the first hour or so on a 10 hour drive. I kept her in the carrier and talked to her. She seemed alright afterwards.

Talk to your vet about getting something to sedate them. That is what I did when I moved to Florida from Indiana.

To get some more ideas, you might want to post and/or search the Cat and/or Pets forums.
