My biggest dilemma with looking to find a place to move is finding a job elsewhere!

I was thinking of visiting a place and interviewing while visiting, and if things worked out there, then move within a month. (I would need a month to train someone for my current job).

However it seems the minute they realize you are not currently local, your resume gets tossed in the trash. And in my line of work (Accounting, Office Management) they generally want someone to start right away.

With this in mind, am I better off just having enough saved for 6 months to live on and hope I find something? I've never had too many issues finding work in NYC (except for 2010) and I will work 2 part time jobs if I have to. Or am I better off applying everywhere with the hopes that someone will be patient enough to wait 3-4 weeks for me to get there?

Those of you who have moved to other states in the past, how did you do it?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have family or friends in the area you're looking at? I would suggest asking to stay with them briefly so you can find a job - and if you don't find one, no sweat you'll return to your own place after a few weeks. So you could use their address on your resume and just tell employers you recently moved to the area.
